Question 3- What have You learned from your audience feedback?

'Audience' is a very important concept throughout media studies. All media texts are made with an audience in mind, ie a group of people who will receive it and make some sort of sense out of it. And generally, but not always, the producers make some money out of that audience. Therefore it is important to understand what happens when an audience "meets" a media text."

Audience research is one of the main important piece of information a producers of a film needs. It is a major part of any media company and without the target of the right audience it can quickly fail or not work at all. Four main key points we needed to gather from our audience research are:
-Income
-age
-gender
-race
- & location
this form of categorising otherwise known as demographics can shape how well a film actually does depending on its audience and how well producers and directed marketed it.

In order for us to promote our teaser trailer and receive as much audience feedback as we could we used the following meathods:

Filimg people’s feedback of film poster

Creating a facebook group

Posting the teaser, magazine cover and poster on our own pages

Posting the teaser trailer on youtube

Creating a website

From travelling up to central London to gather feedback from pass abys about our film poster we noticed after watching back the footage that this type of genre (romantic thriller) was not very popular with the older generation of people that we asked but was very popular with the younger generation. However, all of the people we asked did comment on how professional the poster looked and was very intrigued about the content behind it.

So far on youtube we have 408 views, and four comments.(as shown below). The comments therefore show to be very positive and the audiences that have views the teaser seem to like it even on our facebook pages. (insert picture)

Viewing the statistics and data on youtube also shows that most referrals were made from facebook and other viral sources (like msn ect). This shows that we promoted the teaser trailer mostly on facebook and because it is immediate access as more people are likely to view it through this social networking site.

It is also very interesting to see that a vast majority of people also viewed our teaser trailer in the area of south America and also sri lanka due to me sending out the link to my cousins who live there.

These results have also developed since the last blog entry and have discovered more people in the North America and South America have been viewing our teaser trailer. This shows that the vast majority of people have either come across it through shared links on facebook or browsing and came across it. Perhaps because it has been more watched in these parts on America and so on it is appealing to the American audience and perhaps it is something that they can familiarise with and is used to seeing ( the story line for example)

Below shows the results of our questionnaire about our film poster

Poster 1

These questionnaires were handed out to a wide age range of people. As we wanted to see what everyone overall would think of our poster. We also made sure we asked the same amount of males as females. From these questionnaires we learnt that most people are aware that the film poster is influencing them to go and see the film. Also everyone said our film would be aimed at teen ages or adults. Which is who out target audience were. We also asked people what they thought was most and what they thought was least effective, most people said they liked the photography and the layout of the poster and that they thought the text was the least effective factor.

Magazine

For these questionnaires we asked only people around the age group that our film is targeted at as we wanted to make sure that the film and the way we are portraying it appeals to the audience we want it to. Once again we insured to ask an equal amount of males as females. Something we learnt form the questionnaire was that not many people buy film magazines. However the ones that the few people who read them said they like either empire or total film. Overall everyone we asked thought it looked professional. When we asked what stands out the most on the magazine cover as you can see most people said colours. The other aspects that people said stood out were the main image, Film strip and title. The aspect that most people said stood out the least was the film title. Which if we were doing again we may change as the film title is very important and should be noticed. When we asked people what the main image told them about the film the issues people said were mainly love and death which are our main themes so this shows it was effective.

Poster 2

Once again we asked all people the age range we are aiming the film at with half being males and half being females. Alike to our other products when we asked if people thought they looked professional the majority of people said that they did. When we asked what the poster told people about the film once again the majority said death, love and romance. Which as they are some of out main themes shows the poster is effective. Also everyone who had seen the trailer said that they thought the poster and the trailer both sent out the same message and themes. Although everyone said they liked this poster most people said they preferred the first poster we created for the film. Once again when we asked people what they most liked about the poster a lot of people said colours but when we asked people about there favourite part most people said image. The final question was does this poster make you want to go and see the film and as the majority of people said yes this proves that it is a effective poster.
